Description

The railings surrounding the water reservoir were built in 1856 for the New River Company. They are made of cast iron and feature urn finials and secondary lower rails, with larger finials at every seventeenth upright. A moulded kerb of cast iron sits above a brick plinth. The reservoir was constructed to supply water to Hampstead, with water being piped in from Highgate. The New River Company was absorbed into the Metropolitan Water Board in 1902.
