Description

The boundary wall to Admiral's House, located at 25 Hampstead Grove and Grove End, is a garden wall that historically marks the boundary of the listed Admiral's House. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone later alterations and patching. As of 2016, parts of the wall are obscured by foliage.

The wall is constructed of brown brick with brick coping and shallow brick buttresses. In the northern section, the buttresses feature red brick dressings and Portland stone copings.

The wall begins at the 20th-century garage of Admiral's House and extends to the south-east corner of the garden, then runs northwards to the north-east corner of the historic boundary, which is now the corner of the property known as 25 Hampstead Grove. It continues westwards to an opening that provides vehicular access to the property named Grove End.

At the south-west end of the wall, only the lower section remains. The corners at the south-east and north-east are curved, with the south-east corner being rendered and painted. In the eastern stretch of the wall, there is a blocked historic opening. North of this is a 20th-century opening that gives access to 25 Hampstead Grove. The northernmost section of the eastern wall is ramped in two stages, rising towards the north. In the northern stretch of the wall, there is an opening with a segmental arched head, flanked by piers topped with stone eagles, which are a 20th-century addition. A little further west, there is a narrow opening that provides pedestrian access to Grove End.
