Description

Four garden statues and a cistern are located in the grounds of Fenton House. The statues include a shepherd and shepherdess, created around 1735 by John Cheere for Coldbath Abbey in King's Heath, Worcester. These lead figures stand on stone pedestals and are dressed in 18th-century rustic costumes; the shepherdess holds an apple in each hand, while the shepherd stands with his legs crossed and holds a crook. The shepherdess is currently in storage after being stolen around 1988 but has since been recovered.

In addition, there is a statue of Bacchus with a faun situated on the North Lawn, dating from the 19th century. This lead figure stands on a circular base and stone pedestal, depicting Bacchus nude, holding a shallow bowl in his raised left hand and a bunch of grapes in his right hand, with a small faun behind him. A bronze figure of a sitting toad, also from the 19th century, is located at the north-east end of the North Lawn and is realistically moulded, measuring approximately 10 inches high.

The cistern in the Orchard Garden is dated 1723 and made of lead. It has a rectangular shape with relief decorations featuring two ovals within a geometric pattern, depicting the same scene of a knight in armor on a rearing horse, with garland drops at angles.
