Description

Grove Lodge is an early 18th-century semi-detached house with later alterations and additions around 1910. The house is constructed of stucco and has a tiled roof with dormers. It is two storeys and an attic in height. The front elevation features a single window and a single-window lower extension at the south end. A 20th-century entrance portico is situated in the south-east angle. A plain stucco band runs across the first floor. It has recessed sash windows with louvred shutters, and a parapet. The interior has not been inspected. The house was the home of John Galsworthy, the novelist and playwright, from 1918 to 1933, a period during which he completed The Forsyte Saga and won the Nobel Prize for Literature; a plaque commemorating this is displayed by the London County Council.
