Description

East Heath Lodge (Number 1) and South Lodge (Number 2) are a semi-detached pair of houses built around 1785, with alterations made around 1820. They are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick with red brick dressings and feature a stone string course above the second-floor windows. The buildings are three storeys high with semi-basements.

Number 1 has two windows on the front, while Number 2 has six windows plus a recessed single window bay. The main doorway of Number 1 is located at the rear and features a modern porch. The garden front includes a 20th-century French window that is accessed by steps. The windows have gauged red brick flat arches and are recessed sashes with shutters. There is a first-floor verandah on the extension of Number 1, which is covered by a tented canopy.

Number 2 boasts a well-preserved original doorcase with an open dentilled pediment supported by Corinthian columns, which have Tower of Winds capitals and an entablature. It features a fanlight with a 20th-century lantern and a panelled door that is approached by steps with cast-iron railings. The windows also have gauged red brick flat arches and recessed sashes with shutters. Additionally, there is an early 19th-century two-storey splayed bay addition with a cast-iron balcony on the first floor, topped with a hipped canopy.

The interiors have not been inspected. Historically, Number 1 was the home of composer Arthur Bliss, as noted by an English Heritage plaque. Number 2 (South Lodge) was listed on May 14, 1974.
