Description
Heath Side is a pair of semi-detached cottages, now combined into a single house, likely built between the late 18th century and early 19th century, possibly around 1775 and attributed to James Wyatt. The house is constructed of yellow stock brick with hipped, slated roofs featuring projecting bracketed eaves and a central stack. It has two windows on each wing, with a coach house, now used as a garage, on the ground floor. The central bays bow to their full height and are flanked by entrance bays with round-arched doorways, each featuring patterned fanlights and panelled doors. Gauged red brick flat arches define the recessed sash and casement windows, some of which retain shutters. The western cottage has a continuous cast-iron balcony on its first floor. The interior has not been inspected. The western cottage has historical associations with W.E. Gladstone.
