Description
The Pancras Road Arches is a section of the perimeter wall of the St Pancras goods yard, featuring integrated shops. It is a significant remnant of the former coal depot owned by the Midland Railway Company. Built between 1895 and 1898, it was possibly designed by John Underwood, the engineer for the Midland Railway Company. The structure is made of red brick in English Bond with stone dressings and has a parapeted roof. It is a single-storey building with a pointed-arch arcade consisting of 28 bays, most of which have shop fronts that maintain an authentic design in the Gothic Revival style. This site is a rare example of commercial premises that were incorporated within a rail goods yard.
