Description
The cottage located at the rear of Troston Hall dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and has been later converted into an outbuilding. It features a timber-framed structure that is rendered, with a late 19th-century red brick gable end on the south side, which includes an upper door. The roof is covered in corrugated iron. Inside, there is a plain internal chimney stack. To the south of the stack, there is a two-storey section consisting of a large room on the ground floor and two rooms above. The main beams are exposed on the ground floor, which also has a large open fireplace with a timber lintel. The upper fireplace is fitted with an early 19th-century cast iron grate. To the north of the stack, there is a single-storey section, which may be an addition, but all the framing in this area is covered. This cottage is included for its group value with Troston Hall.
