Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory built around 1840, as noted in the Glebe Terrier of 1850, which states it was 'lately rebuilt'. The building has two storeys and attics, constructed of colour-washed brick with plaintiled roofs featuring overhanging eaves and a mutule cornice. It is designed as a double house with a central well to the roof and short, hipped wings extending from the rear. The façade has a six-window range with small-paned sashes set in deep reveals, some of which contain old crown glass. The entrance is off-centre, featuring a double door with two flush panels in a rounded arched surround, and is complemented by a mid-19th century white brick porch that is plain and flat-roofed.

On the rear (garden) front, the space between the two wings has been infilled with a large Edwardian conservatory. At the west end of the house, there is a lower two-storey range with a lean-to pantiled roof, which includes casement windows with slightly arched brick heads, one of which has square leaded panes, along with a doorway that has a reeded surround. Inside, there is fragmentary evidence of an older timber-framed core, suggesting that it incorporates an earlier parsonage house. The entrance hall has had its ceiling removed, allowing it to rise the full height of the house, and features a geometrical staircase with a moulded handrail and flat carved and pierced balusters.
