Description
Symonds Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century, possibly with an earlier 18th-century core. It features an impressive red brick facade that spans three storeys, concealing a two-span gable front with a slated roof. The main range has three windows and is flanked by one-storey lean-tos, each one window wide, which have parapets. A brick pediment crowns the central section, adorned with carved brick dentils and a blank roundel in the tympanum. An urn is placed at each end of the pediment. The left lean-to is a false structure with a dummy window, while the right lean-to conceals a pantiled pantry. The windows are casements with segmental brick heads. The entrance features a six-fielded-panel door with matching panelled reveals, an architrave, and a flat canopy. Inside, there is a mid-18th-century staircase with short flights through three floors at the rear, complete with turned balusters. Additional interior features include six-panel doors, window shutters, and a panelled corner cupboard. The house is currently vacant and in poor condition.
