Description
The George Hotel is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered building with a crosswing at the west end. It was refronted and extended in the 18th century, featuring double gables on the east end. The south block has a jettied gable and is two storeys high with a three-window range, showcasing double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The crosswing includes a wide bay on the ground storey with 20th-century windows and a smaller bay on the first storey. At the east end, there is a two-storey bay. A 20th-century porch projects from the front. The main blocks have a tiled roof, while the crosswing has a pantiled roof. The George Hotel is part of a group that includes Church Cottages, Chinnerys, premises occupied by Chris Bolden & Co, Cosy Nook, Almore House, Corner Cottage, a mill occupied by A Kahn, Cavendish House, The Rectory, premises occupied by W J Cutting, Spring View, Middle Cottage, Water View, Canford House, and St Ronans.
