Description
Cavendish House is an early 19th century white brick house located on the north side of High Street in Cavendish. It is two storeys high and features a three-window range on the south front, a one-window range on the quadrant corner, and a two-window range on the west front. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in plain reveals. The central part of the south front, which slightly projects forward, has a three-light window on the first storey and a stucco surround with a cornice on console brackets for the ground storey window. The quadrant corner includes a stucco parapet and a ground storey stucco Ionic portico with plain columns in antis. The roof is slate, and the front is protected by ornamental iron railings with an unusual curved pattern. Cavendish House is part of a group that includes Church Cottages, Chinnerys, premises occupied by Chris Bolden & Co, the George Hotel, Cosy Nook, Almore House, Corner Cottage, a mill occupied by A Kahn, The Rectory, premises occupied by W J Cutting, Spring View, Middle Cottage, Water View, Canford House, and St Ronans.
