Description
28 and 29 Guildhall Street is a pair of houses, one of which includes a shop, dating from the early 19th century but featuring a core from the 16th century. The houses have a timber-framed core that has been raised and faced in white brick, topped with a slate roof and a plain wood eaves soffit.
The exterior is three storeys high with a four-window range, featuring sash windows in plain reveals, with 16 panes on the first and second storeys. Number 29 has a small early 19th-century shop window adorned with reeded architraves and a cornice, along with 20th-century plate glass. There are two six-panel doors, which are partly glazed, also with reeded architraves and small cornices.
Inside number 29, there is an open 16th-century fireplace on the south side, which has a damaged timber lintel and a stone jamb on one side, while the rest is rendered. The front wall retains one main post and part of a middle rail, and the ceiling features a small main beam that is chamfered with scroll stops.
