Description
Oak Farmhouse is a former farmhouse with a late 15th century core, featuring early 17th century and later alterations. The building has two storeys and an L-shaped form. It is constructed from timber framing and rendered, with clay pantiles on one side of the roof and plaintiles on the other, topped with four courses of black-glazed pantiles at the eaves. There is an internal chimney stack at the junction of the two ranges, which has tall saw-tooth shafts on a square base, and another stack made of Tudor brick with stepped sides added to one side wall. The windows are mostly 20th century small-paned casements, along with 20th century doors. Inside the main range, there is notable timbering and evidence of alterations from an open hall, including an inserted main beam in the ceiling, blocked original windows, and empty mortices for long arched braces in the main posts. The tie-beam of the open truss has been removed, and the roof timbers appear to have been renewed. The 17th century extension, which includes the internal stack, features a ground floor room with joists set on edge.
