Description
The Church of SS Peter and Paul is a former parish church located in Little Livermere, now in a state of ruin and functioning as an empty shell. The building is constructed of rubble flint, with remnants of old render. The roofs were removed in 1947, and the interior fittings were dispersed to other churches. The nave and chancel likely date from the 13th century, although they were reconstructed in the 18th century, retaining elements of older work, including Saxon long-and-short work in the quoining of the north-east corner and a blocked Norman north doorway featuring a decorated lintel. The east window has 2-light Y-tracery. An 18th-century addition is the north chapel, which includes a Gothic plaster vault. The west tower, dating from the 14th century, is small and unbuttressed, and was heightened by two additional stages in the 18th century, making it visible from Livermere Hall, which was demolished in 1887.
