Description
High Green Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse that stands two storeys high with attics and features a two-cell lobby entrance plan. The building is timber-framed but was encased in Fletton brick up to the eaves level around 1945. The front slope of the roof is covered with 20th-century double Roman tiles, while the rear is finished with black-glazed pantiles.
Internally, the chimney stack has a short rendered shaft with a blank recessed date panel. The farmhouse has two 3-light casement windows on each storey, which include transoms and top lights. A small enclosed gabled porch with a half-glazed door provides entry.
The tie-beams in the gables are both intricately carved; the northern gable features embattled ornament, while the southern gable displays a guilloche pattern. Most of the internal timbers are covered, but the main beam in the north room showcases ovolo-moulding and leaf-stops. The roof structure consists of seven bays, with one row of butt-purlins and one row of clasped purlins, and windbraces are present only in the central bay.
