Description
21 and 22 Eastgate Street is a pair of houses, originally constructed as one, dating from the early to mid 16th century. Part of the building is now used as offices. The structure is timber-framed and rendered on the jettied upper storey, with a ground storey built in white brick. It features a plaintiled roof and stands two storeys high with attics. The ends of the jetty are covered by a fascia board.
On the upper storey, there are three small-paned, two-light casement windows, while the lower storey has two sash windows in flush cased frames—one with 16 panes at No.21 and a larger 20th-century replacement at No.22. There are also two flat-headed dormers with lead-covered roofs and rendered cheeks, each with two-light casement windows; the dormer at No.22 has small panes. The entrance features two doors with plain wood surrounds and rectangular fanlights.
Inside No.21, which is divided into two bays, the main cross-beams on the ground storey are exposed and feature roll and hollow mouldings.
