Description
Old Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century. It stands three storeys tall and features a timber-framed and rendered structure. The roof is of two spans, with the western half covered in plain tiles and the eastern half in pantiles. On the east wall, there are two identical external chimney stacks made of Tudor brick, which have stepped sides and rebuilt shafts, and may incorporate garderobes on the upper storey.
Along the east side, there is a single-storey lean-to addition that is rendered and has a pantiled roof, enclosing the bases of the chimney stacks. The building has ovolo-moulded cross windows on both the ground and first storeys, and ovolo-moulded mullioned windows on the second storey. Inside, some original panelling remains. This high-quality structure may have been intended as a hunting lodge. It is believed to be a remnant of a larger house built by the Barrow family, the last of whom, Maurice Barrow, died in 1666, although there is no structural evidence to support this claim, and the current building appears complete in itself.
