Description
The Two Lodges and Gateway at the entrance to the Duke's Ride are a pair of lodge cottages dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of white brick with freestone dressings and feature an arched carriageway between them. The cottages are single-storey with shallow-pitched slate roofs that are concealed behind stone parapets, each topped with three large stone balls. A string course runs along the building. The windows are recessed, with semi-circular arched heads and heavy glazing bars, surrounded by double arched brick. The high archway has a matching double surround and a triangular pediment above, which has curves below, resembling a shaped gable. Small chimney-stacks for the lodge cottages are built into each side of the gable. The entrance features a pair of high wrought iron gates with plain bars, separated by a band of guilloche ornament and topped with spearhead points.
