Description

This barn, located 30 metres west of Riches Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century. It features five bays and two aisles, with a gabled midstrey at the central bay. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with a pantiled roof. Inside, there are arch-braced tie-beams, and the braces to the arcade plates are unusually short, with some displaying a pronounced ogee curvature. Stout passing-braces extend from the ground cill past the aisle tie-beams up to the back of the principal post-heads. The roof structure was replaced in the 18th or early 19th century.
