Description
Riches Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and mid-19th century. It has two storeys and a three-cell lobby-entrance plan. The building is timber-framed and rough-cast rendered, topped with a slated roof featuring axial and gable chimneys made of red brick, which are rendered. The windows are small-pane sliding sashes. The entrance features a pair of mid-19th century three-panelled doors with an architrave and a small flat canopy. Inside, typical late 16th century framing is exposed, and there is a wide unglazed window that has been blocked in the room above the service end, which may have originally served as a cheese-loft. The parlour was likely rebuilt in the 17th century, and there is a one-cell extension at the rear of the parlour and hall chimney, creating a T-plan. The eaves were raised, and a new lower-pitched roof was added around 1840.
