Description

Highlands is a house that dates from the 15th century and early 16th century, with alterations made in the early 17th century and mid-18th century. It has two storeys and seven windows. The building is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a jettied upper floor on the left-hand bay. The roofs are covered with clay plain tiles and have 17th-century axial and gable chimneys made of red brick. The windows are small-pane sash style. The entrance has a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above and a flat canopy from the 18th century supported by carved console brackets.

To the left, there is a jettied wing from the 15th century, which originally had an open hall that was demolished around 1530 to create a new long-jettied main range consisting of a hall and parlour. This main range features complex roll mouldings and hollow chamfers on the first and attic floor members. An additional parlour was added to the rear in the early 17th century, complete with oak wainscotting. In the mid-18th century, the chimney between the hall and parlour was rebuilt, and a new entrance hall was vaulted. The staircase from this period has a moulded handrail along with turned newels and balusters, and other mid-18th century joinery includes panelled doors and cornices.
