Description
1, 2 and 3 The Guildhall is a row of three houses with a core dating back to the 16th century, which were extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are 1½ and 2 storeys high and feature eight windows. They have a timber-framed structure that is rendered, topped with a thatched roof that includes axial 19th-century chimneys made of gault brick and a thatched gabled dormer. The windows are 20th-century casements, and the entrance doors are boarded. Nos. 1 and 2 were originally a two-bay room, likely open to the roof, with an early or mid-16th-century crown post roof supported by square posts with two-way plank-type braces. In the 18th century, the building served as a workhouse, during which No. 3 was added. The property was later extended and converted into cottages around 1836 and underwent restoration around 1970.
