Description
The Glen is a house located on Eastgate Street in Bury St Edmunds, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It features a painted brick front and painted flint sides, topped with a mansard roof that has slate on the front slopes and pantiles at the rear. The building has two storeys and attics, with a three-window range consisting of sashes without glazing bars in flush cased frames with segmental heads. The central entrance is a six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, framed by a shouldered wood architrave and pediment. There are two chimney stacks at the ends of the house. At the rear, there is a large extension from the 1960s that includes a re-set datestone with the initials D.J.A. and the date 1792. Inside, the house retains 18th-century timbers in the ceilings and a simple early 19th-century staircase.
