Description
68 and 69 St John's Street is a house that was later divided into two shops and is now a single shop with storage above. It dates from the early 19th century but has an older core. The building is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a coved jetty on the upper storey and a steeply-pitched slate roof.
The exterior consists of two storeys and attics, with a three-window range that includes long two-light casements with two horizontal glazing bars in flush moulded architraves. There is a double 20th-century shop front with a central entry on the ground storey. The building also has two flat-headed dormers with two-light casement windows and a long 20th-century extension at the rear.
Inside, there are no original features visible. The walls of the upper storeys and attics are covered with vertical tongued and grooved boarding, and the ceilings are also boarded. There are two boxed-in main beams in the first-storey rooms.
