Description

10, 11, and 12 St John's Street is a house and shop that has been divided into three shops. It has a core dating back to the 16th century, with 18th and 19th century frontages and alterations made in 1991. The building is timber-framed and rendered, featuring panels of mock timbering and a jettied design along the street front. It has a tiled roof with a wood modillion eaves cornice.

The exterior consists of two storeys and the remnants of a cellar, with a four-window range. All windows are sashes in flush cased frames, spaced irregularly, with the outer windows having 16 panes and the two inner windows being longer and narrower with 12 panes. The joist ends of the jetty are covered by a moulded wood fascia board. The ground storey features three separate late 19th century shop windows with vertical glazing bars and panelled stall boards. Two shop doors were reinstated in 1991. There are also two wings extending at the rear.

Inside, there are four bays in the front range, but many original features have been removed, leaving little visible on the ground storey. On the upper storey, there is a section of studding with a blocked original window along the front wall. The roof is inaccessible. The three-bay 17th century rear range on the north has a shallow-pitched roof dating from around 1920.
