Description
Sampson House, formerly part of the Swan Inn, dates back to 1826, as indicated on the building. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slated roof with internal red brick chimneys. The building has three storeys and six windows, which are small-pane sashes set beneath flat arches made of finely-gauged brick.
The central entrance has a six-panelled door framed by a reeded architrave and a blind semi-circular fanlight. To the left, there is a second doorway with similar features, but it has painted radiating bars of a dummy fanlight, and the opening has been adapted for a small-pane sash window from the 20th century. Both doorways display painted raised springing stones, with one pair carved with "1826, MD" and the other with "1826, BD." To the right of the entrance is a tall carriage entrance topped with an elliptical arched head made of finely-gauged brick.
