Description

The Old Bank House is a house from the early 16th century, featuring two storeys with attics and a three-cell cross-entry plan. It has a timber-framed and plastered exterior, with 19th-century herringbone pargetting. The first floor has a long-wall jettied design along the front, where most of the framing is concealed, but some chamfered brackets and shafts with moulded capitals can be seen beneath the jetty. The roof is covered with plain tiles and includes an early 17th-century axial chimney made of red brick, which has four moulded octagonal shafts. There is a second similar chimney located internally on the left-hand gable, with both chimneys having their shafts rebuilt in the 19th century. The house features late 19th-century small-pane three-light casements, with those on the ground floor including transoms. The doorway is positioned at the cross-entry and features a 17th-century 12-panelled oak door, which may be a 19th-century copy. The interior has not been examined, but it is likely to contain notable 16th-century features.
