Description
Vales Hall is a manor farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. The building has a timber-framed core that is completely encased in red brick from the mid 19th century. It features a plaintiled roof, except for the rear of the main range, which is clad in black pantiles. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with a main range flanked by projecting cross-wings, creating a symmetrical facade. There are five large-paned tripartite sash windows under flat brick arches, and two-light sashes in the attic.
The mid 19th century gabled open porch has a shallow two-centred brick entrance arch, pierced wavy bargeboards, and a spike finial. Inside the porch is a 19th century four-panel door, with the upper panels glazed. The cross-wings also have matching bargeboards. The main range has two axial stacks with a sawtooth pattern, inset panels in the base, and corbelled caps; the left-hand stack was rebuilt in the 19th century. The interior has been Victorianised, with only a small portion of the original structure exposed, and includes some 18th century two-panel doors. There are remains of a medieval moat surrounding the property.
