Description
The barn located 50 meters west of Whitefield House dates from the mid 17th century, with extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is approximately 8 bays long, constructed from timber framing and weatherboarding, and features a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched. There is an original gabled porch near the east end of the north wall. Inside, the barn has primary braced studding and a mind-braced clasped purlin roof. The easternmost bay was originally used for stabling, evidenced by the remaining upper partition and stable doors in the east gable. The barn was extended to the west in the 18th century, and the final western bay, which has flint and red brick footings, was added in the early 19th century, complete with a lean-to roofed porch.
