Description

White House Farm House, including the East Wing, is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and possibly earlier, with at least two phases of construction. The building was extended and altered in the late 19th century and again in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with some parts extended and partially cased in red brick. The roofs are slate and have varying pitches.

The main range consists of three cells and has a cross gable to the left, leading to an additional early block at the rear left. The overall shape of the building is a large irregular rectangle due to the 19th and 20th-century additions. It stands two storeys tall with attics.

On the entrance front, there is a 20th-century gabled brick porch located to the right of the centre. The windows include three-light 19th-century glazing bar flush frame casements and a 19th-century dual sash to the right. The eaves are boxed. The left bay features a 19th-century gable that reflects an earlier roof design, with an original ovolo moulded tie beam beneath a pentice board. The main roof is steeply pitched and has a two-light raking dormer. There is a rebuilt cross axial stack towards the left and a small hip down to a slightly lower cross range. The right gable end has an external stack that is rendered with offsets, exposing the plates and purlins, and has slightly lower eaves at the rear.

To the left, a secondary block extends further back and includes a large 20th-century lean-to at the front. This block has an axial stack in front of the ridge that was raised in the 19th century, a hip at the left end with an early exposed plate towards the front, and two-light raking dormers. The garden front features 19th-century red brick additions at the centre and left behind the main range. To the right of centre, a gabled wing projects further and has recessed segmental headed tripartite sashes, an attic oculus, and bargeboards. The left side has a ground floor tripartite sash and a gabled porch, while the first floor has dual and tripartite sashes beneath a hipped roof.

The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the front left is a small outbuilding that was formerly a detached kitchen or dairy, now converted. This outbuilding has a plastered timber frame and a steeply pitched slate roof, consisting of one bay and one storey. Its gable front has a 20th-century window and exposed plates and purlins.
