Description
This former stable, located 100 meters east of Rockylls Hall, dates from the mid or late 16th century. It consists of three bays and was originally designed with a hay loft above. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with an asbestos sheeted roof that was once thatched. It features full-height close-studding and coupled rafters, although most of the collars have been removed. Struts and purlins were added in the 18th or 19th century.
On the south side of the central bay, there is an original window that shows evidence of diamond mullions, along with a blocked doorway. Above this, there is another window that is missing its cill and mullions. The easternmost bay was originally partitioned off. Despite its depleted condition, this stable is included as a rare example of a 16th-century stable.
