Description
Providence House is an early 19th-century house, possibly with an earlier core, located on a corner site with an L-shaped plan. It is timber framed and features plasterwork that imitates ashlar. The roof is covered with black pantiles and is hipped at the corner. The house has two storeys and three windows facing Church Street, consisting of two bays with small-paned sash windows in flush frames. The right bay has mid-20th century large-paned aluminium windows in the original openings. The central doorway has a four-panel entrance door, with the upper panels glazed, flanked by reeded pilasters and topped with an entablature. The return front has three bays, with three of the original sash windows replaced by mid-20th century windows. There is another doorway featuring a four-panel bolection-moulded door, reeded pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. An internal stack is present in each range. The house is included for its group value.
