Description
The Poplars is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a thatched roof with a brick ridge stack. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan, with the lobby located at the present rear. It is a single storey with an attic and has a two-window range of 20th-century casements, along with a plank door to the left. The left end includes a small lean-to with a two-light window and a pantile roof, with a similar window above. The right end has a small attic casement. At the rear, there is a plank door and three 20th-century casements.
Inside, the house displays tall panel framing and chamfered bridging beams. A former open fireplace retains a 19th-century range, with the hood visible in the attic above. There is a winder stair leading to the attic, which features wide floorboards and a side purlin roof supported by collars and heavy rafters. Plank doors are found throughout the house. The Poplars is a little-altered example of its period.
