Description

Star Cottage is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is a two-cell open hall house. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The roof features two 19th-century eyebrow dormers. Red brick chimneys, dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, are visible externally at each end. The windows are 19th-century small-pane casements. A 20th-century glazed entrance door is protected by an open, lean-to porch with a pantile roof supported on posts. It is a modest example of a late open hall house. The roof appears smoke-blackened, with later side purlins, but originally had coupled rafters and was hipped at the ends. The visible timber framing is plain. An open truss was removed during the 17th or 18th century, and its tie beam was subsequently reused to support an inserted upper floor.
