Description

Abbey Hall Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with the rear range possibly being older. The building is timber-framed and plastered, while the gable walls of the main range are constructed from red brick with random burnt headers. It features parapet gables with internal end chimneys, each equipped with a pair of diagonally-set square flues. The roofs are covered with plaintiles, and there are three notable early 18th-century lead-roofed gabled dormers, each adorned with moulded wooden pediments and cornices, along with casements that have leaded lights. The farmhouse has two storeys and attics, with five windows that include small-pane sashes from the late 18th or early 19th century. The early 18th-century doorway has a Gibbs surround and a moulded pediment, leading to a pair of three-panelled doors that were renewed in the 20th century.

At the rear, there is a 1½ storey wing that is also timber-framed and plastered, featuring a coved eaves cornice and a concrete plaintiled roof. This wing has two 19th-century axial chimneys made of red brick, one of which has triple diagonally-set square shafts and a sawtooth base. There are three 19th-century gabled dormers, with one containing a small-pane sash and the others having small-pane casements. The building includes 18th-century cross-casements, one of which was remodelled in the 19th century. Additionally, there is a 19th-century six-panelled entrance door with glazed upper panels. A further single-storey service wing at the rear dates from the 18th century or earlier. The interior has not been examined.
