Description
Chestnut Cottage and Chestnut View form a pair of cottages, originally part of a larger terrace. The cottages date back to the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. They are timber-framed and plastered, with a plaintiled roof. The roof has three segmental-headed dormers, fitted with casement windows that were added in the mid-20th century. There are two chimneys: one axial, built in the 18th century from red brick, and another at the left-hand gable. Chestnut Cottage features an early 19th-century sash window with a fluted architrave, a cornice supported by console brackets, and a four-panelled entrance door with a matching architrave and cornice. Chestnut View has two early 20th-century casement windows. The cottages have two entrance doorways; one similar to that of Chestnut Cottage, but with a five-panelled door, and the other featuring human heads carved on the architrave.
