Description
The Coach House is a terrace of three dwellings built in the mid-18th century, originally serving as stabling and a coach house for Finborough Hall. It was converted around 1980. The building is constructed of red brick and features a modillioned course at the eaves. At the right end, there is a stuccoed Flemish gable, which may be a 19th-century alteration. The left gable has an original brick parapet with an internal end chimney. The roof is slated and includes twelve segmental-headed casement dormers, most of which are felted, although three retain their original lead cladding.
At the center of the ridge, there is a notable original timber-framed and boarded clock tower with a rusticated base. Each side of the tower features a panel with a circle, and a clock is attached to the south side. The octagonal bell turret has arcaded alternate faces, a leaded pyramid roof, and a weather-vane. On the south side, slightly right of center, is a carriage entrance with an arched head made of gauged brick.
The facade features a series of arches: seven to the left and four to the right of the entrance. One arch has a pointed shape, while the others have round arches of gauged brick, linked by a band of raised brickwork at the springing level. Most of the arches are infilled with 20th-century casements and boarded doors; the left bay may have always been used for domestic purposes, as it has an early 19th-century small-pane sash. Attached to the left is an original slated lean-to, which has a similar arch containing an original small-pane casement.
