Description

Nut Tree Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 16th-century farmhouse, potentially built in two phases, with 19th-century alterations. The house is timber framed, with the majority of the frame now encased in 19th-century red brick, featuring pilaster strips at the corners. The roof is covered in pantiles. The building is two storeys high and has a three-cell lobby entry plan. It has three windows, which are mainly 18th- to 19th-century casements set under flat arches. A mid-20th century lean-to porch has been added to the front, with an entrance door in its side wall. The doorway within the porch is fitted with a 19th-century six-panel door, the upper section of which is glazed, along with broad fluted pilasters, a frieze and a bracketed cornice, although the cornice is partly obscured. An internal stack is present. The timber frame is largely intact and much of it is exposed on the upper floor, showing evidence of original diamond-mullioned windows. On the ground floor, there is a fireplace with an eared surround. A 19th-century staircase is housed within the chimney stack. The roof is of a Queen-post design.
