Description
The granary located 50 meters north-east of Onehouse Hall dates from the mid 17th century. The ground floor may have originally served as stabling and was partly converted to house a mill in the 19th century, with the machinery removed in the 20th century. The building has two storeys and features four and a half bays. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plaintiled roof. The oak framing is well-preserved, showcasing primary-braced close studding and a two-tier butt purlin roof, with the upper tier windbraced. The windows have square mullions and provisions for sliding shutters, some of which remain on the ground floor; all windows are glazed, likely since the 19th century. The narrow central bay contains an original staircase of medieval design, featuring heavy triangular blocks and inclined bearers. The first floor boasts heavy main beams and oak joists set on edge. If the building was indeed designed as a granary, its quality and completeness are notably high.
