Description

Sunnyside Cottage is a house dating back to 1604, with extensions built in the 18th century. The original core is timber-framed and plastered, with an extension in clay lump. The roof is thatched, with pantiles covering the extension. The house originally comprised two rooms, later extended to the right with a kitchen bay. It is a single storey building with an attic. The front entrance is towards the right side, featuring a recessed, boarded door with a hoodboard. More recent casement windows and gabled dormers, some with two or three lights, are visible, along with an earlier casement at the rear. An internal stack is located at the right end, while an external stack to the left is a later addition. The kitchen bay has been raised to accommodate an attic, with a catslide roof covering a lean-to outshut at the rear. Inside, the cottage retains features of the original timber framing, including deeply chamfered axial binding beams, tension braces, jowled posts, and a collar purlin roof.
