Description
No. 76 is a house located on High Street in Needham Market. It was largely built in the late 19th century, but it has a core that dates back to the 16th and 18th centuries. The facade is made of red brick from the late 19th century and features a band at the first floor. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The house has two storeys and five windows, with sash windows that have flat arches made of orange gauged brick. The central voussoirs of these arches are raised to resemble a keystone, and the sashes contain large panes of glass.
The doorway, dating from the late 18th century, has a moulded eaved architrave, topped with a moulded cornice and a frieze decorated with quatrefoils. The door itself is a six-panelled design, with the upper pair being glazed. Inside, there is some close-studwork, and the house features a complete 16th-century crown-post roof, with square posts and wide-reaching two-way braces.
