Description
91 and 91A High Street are two houses that were originally built as one open-hall house in the 15th century. The building has two storeys and features a timber-framed structure with roughcast exterior. It has a deep coved plaster eaves cornice from the early 18th century and a plaintiled roof. There is a large rear chimney from the 17th century made of narrow gault brick, as well as another chimney from the 20th century made of red brick. The windows are mid-19th century sashes with large panes, and one window includes sidelights. The entrance doors are 20th century, featuring four panels with the upper panels glazed. There is also a 20th-century garage doorway with a segmental head. Most of the timber-framing is hidden, and the open truss from the two-bay hall appears to have been removed. However, the remainder of the crownpost roof is intact, with evidence of smoke-blackening above the hall. The studwork is spaced quite widely. Additionally, there is a mid-16th century rear wing that jetties along one side wall on brackets, with a moulded binding joist and other exposed framing, as well as a complete plain crownpost roof with two-way plank bracing.
