Description
The former Quaker Meeting House, now a store, dates from around 1772 and has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. The building is primarily timber-framed and pebble-dashed, with a slated roof that has been re-finished in asbestos sheeting on the west face. It features a gable chimney made of gault brick and mainly small-pane sash windows, which may have been renewed in the early 19th century. There are two entrance doors, each with two fielded panels, leading to an open porch that is original but has been altered and roofed in corrugated iron, supported by a central post designed as a pilaster.
Inside, the meeting room has seen little alteration, showcasing horizontal beaded boarding and a deep loft. While the balustrading was renewed in the 20th century, part of the original staircase remains. The room below retains some original joinery, including a screen with hatchways leading to the main room. The approach to the Meeting House is lined with 18th and 19th-century graves belonging to the Alexander and Maw families, with headstones now leaning against nearby outbuildings.
