Description

This is a house and guest house, dating from around 1500, with alterations primarily from the 19th century. It has a two-cell plan with a cross-passage entrance. Originally timber-framed, the front wall was later encased in 19th-century brickwork, with a decorative band at the first floor level. The brickwork was pebble-dashed in the 20th century. The roof is covered in plain tiles and features a large internal end chimney constructed of red brick. The windows are 19th/20th-century sash windows with large panes of glass. A 20th-century six-panelled door with an oblong fanlight is located in the cross-entry position. Inside, original features include arch-braced close-studding and a plain crownpost roof, as well as evidence of earlier unglazed windows with square mullions. A service room doorway is blocked, retaining a four-centred head. A large open fireplace is present in the hall. A single-story extension to the rear dates from the 17th or 18th century, and several other rear alterations were made in the 19th century. The building is of group value.
