Description
This building is a barn located 40 meters south-west of Dairy Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century with alterations around 1800. It consists of about eight bays, with at least two bays at the east end floored over. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, sitting on a plinth of tarred brick, featuring much chestnut or elm weatherboarding from the 17th and 18th centuries. The roof is pantiled, having previously been thatched, and includes a pantiled dormer. The roof structure has clasped purlins and many reused rafters from the 15th and 16th centuries. The studwork is mostly concealed, but there is some primary bracing from the 17th and 18th centuries visible. A stair made of triangular oak blocks, accessed by a boarded door, leads directly to the granary from the exterior. The east gable end is open for the cartlodge, which is likely an addition, along with the granary above, from around 1800.
