Description
Priory House is a farmhouse that consists of four sections and dates back to the mid 16th century, with an early 17th century parlour addition. To the left is the hall and service range, while a wing of 16th century or earlier date is set forward of the parlour on the right. At the rear, there is a small dairy wing from the 17th century. The building is primarily timber-framed and roughcast-rendered, featuring a facade of red brick. The roofs are a mix of plaintiled and pantiled, with old plaintiles on the front slope of the hall range. The house has one and a half to two storeys, with an attic in the parlour range. Most of the windows are casements from the 18th and 19th centuries, with one mid 20th century bowed window on the ground floor. The hall range includes a cross-passage entry with a mid 20th century glazed door and has stacks at each end, with the heavier stack against the parlour addition. Inside, there is a screen of 17th century oak panelling in the cross-passage, which appears to have been relocated from another site. The hall range features exposed framing and a queen-post roof, along with chamfered joists. The two-bay addition in front of the parlour has been altered but retains a queen-post roof, showing signs of smoke-blackening in at least one bay.
