Description
22, 22A and 24 Bury Street is a late 18th-century range of shops with living accommodation above. The building is constructed from rendered and colourwashed brick and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys high with four wide bays, each storey separated by a platband. There is a square carriage entrance located to the left of the centre.
No. 22 was formerly a butcher's shop and has a late 19th-century sash display window with 2/2 glazing bars. To the right is a half-glazed entrance door, and to the left is a 20th-century door with panelled reveals leading to the flat above. There is also a 20th-century sash window to the right of this door, which has no glazing bars.
To the left of the carriage arch is No. 24, which features a mid-19th-century plate-glass display window. To the left of this window is a half-glazed door in panelled reveals. The first floor has a tripartite sash window on the left with 8/8 glazing bars, along with three additional plain sashes, also 8/8. The second floor contains four 3/3 sash windows, although the southernmost window has been replaced.
The building has a paired mutule eaves cornice beneath a shallow gabled roof and is topped with two gault brick stacks. The rear of No. 22 includes a two-storey outshut with two red brick stacks. No. 24 features a two-storey gabled cross wing with concrete 20th-century tiles and a cut-down stack. Most of the windows are 8/8 sashes set in flush frames.
