Description

Longs Farm House is an early 17th-century farmhouse, likely with earlier origins. It is timber-framed and roughcast, with thatched and pantiled roofs. The house is arranged in an ā€˜L’ shape, suggesting an original two-bay core which has been expanded by a service bay to the right and a two-cell lobby entry parlour wing at a right angle to the left. The main range is two storeys high. The service bay on the right has a partially raised, recessed six-panel door on the ground floor, and C20 casements. The first floor has C19 three- and four-light casements. An axial ridge stack sits between the hall bays, and the thatch has slightly lower eaves on the service bay, hipped at the right end. The parlour wing projects forward to the left, with an entrance in the inner angle; it features a six-panel double door with a reeded architrave and a large axial ridge stack with a moulded base. The pantiled roof is characteristic of this wing. A front gable end is present, including a ground-floor bay window. The outer elevation shows a gable at the end of the main range. The rear elevation has scattered casements, with doors in the hall and service bays. Inside the parlour bay, there's a jewel stop chamfered binding beam and stop-chamfered posts; the rest of the interior was not inspected.
