Description
Red House is a house that has a core dating from the 17th century or earlier, but it was largely rebuilt in the mid-18th century to serve as the agent's house for the Oakley Park estate. The building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped plain tiled roof. The earlier core of the house was timber framed, and a small part at the rear still has plaster.
The house has two storeys and five windows, which are flush-frame sashes with glazing bars set beneath flat rubbed brick arches. The doorway features a convex frieze and a triangular pediment, with a six-panel raised and fielded door that opens in two leaves, the upper two panels being glazed. There is a central ridge stack, with the shaft having been rebuilt in the mid-20th century.
To the right of the main structure, there is a two-bay addition from the late 19th century, which includes large-paned sash windows under cambered wedge lintels with raised keys. This addition also has a six-panel door with a plain rectangular fanlight, and the original paired boarded doors lead into a coach-house.
